Founded originally as the Law Office of Keoni Hartstack in 2015, Hartstack Law Firm is a client-focused firm that prioritizes communication, hard work, and relationships to deliver desired results.

A general practice law firm located in Cameron, Missouri, Hartstack Law represents clients in the practice areas of Criminal Defense, DUI, Traffic Law, Personal Injury, Family Law, Real Estate Transactions, and Estate Planning.  We have a well-earned reputation for helping individuals, families, and small businesses successfully navigate legal issues and achieve their goals.

Keoni Hartstack is a well-rounded and experienced general practice attorney with a passion for client advocacy and delivering uncompromising results.  Throughout his career, Mr. Hartstack has earned the respect of his clients, opposing counsel and honorable judges. The breadth and depth of his experience and knowledge of the law, combined with pragmatism and dedication, allow Mr. Hartstack to deliver strategic advice to individuals facing a variety of legal challenges.

Dating back to his time in law school, Mr. Hartstack has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas of law.  Mr. Hartstack was a member of the disability and public benefits clinic where he represented and litigated cases against the State of Florida on behalf of indigent individuals in need of Medicaid funding.  Mr. Hartstack interned with the firm Pennington, Moore, Wilkinson, Bell & Dunbar, P.A. where he gained hands on experience with real estate transactions and complex development projects.   Mr. Hartstack also spent time as an intern for the Honorable Tom Chapman who now sits on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District.

Following law school, Mr. Hartstack worked for a small general practice firm that was focused primarily on criminal defense and family law prior to opening his own office in 2015.  In addition to running his own office, Mr. Hartstack spent five years working of Counsel for a Bankruptcy law firm where he developed an understanding of bankruptcy law.  Mr. Hartstack has had the pleasure of helping many clients find solutions to a wide variety of legal challenges. Due to his broad depth of knowledge and experience, Mr. Hartstack is able to analyze the legal problems his clients are facing from multiple angles, and when necessary, is able to implement multi-faceted solutions.

A native of Southwest Iowa, Mr. Hartstack grew up and attended high school in Clarinda, IA where his family still owns and operates a trucking company along with a century farm that goes back four generations.

Mr. Hartstack holds a degree in B.A. from Bellevue University (‘09 B.S.), a Juris Doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law (‘13 J.D.), and has been licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri since 2013 and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri since 2016.

Josh Smith

Josh Smith is a battle-tested trial attorney with experience in defending complex criminal cases in Northwest Missouri. Recognized by his peers as a top litigator, Mr. Smith has worked on nearly every type of criminal case, from misdemeanors to felony murder, and is not afraid to take a case to trial.

Dedicating the last 10 years to working for the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Smith relentlessly fights to protect and assert his clients’ rights in and out of courtrooms.  He has shielded his clients from the devastating consequences of criminal prosecution and his experience in leveraging evidentiary motions, oral arguments, and constitutional knowledge, have earned him a reputation as a trial attorney that gets results. He has a powerful record with 15 out of 21 jury trials on felony criminal cases receiving not guilty verdicts, and 2 others being overturned on appeal.

After years of public service, Mr. Smith joins Hartstack Law to add his dynamic skills and deep experience to the firm’s established foundation of delivering uncompromising results and client-first service.  He brings his passion for the law and translates his litigation expertise into zealous advocacy, dedicated communication, and attention to detail for all of his clients.

A native of Missouri, Mr. Smith grew up in the outskirts of St. Louis and attended Truman State University where he studied Finance and Economics.  He then went on to pursue a top-notch legal education at New York University School of Law, one of the most prestigious programs in the Country.

Mr. Smith holds a degree in B.A. from Truman State University (‘08 B.A.), a Juris Doctorate from New York University Law School (‘11 J.D.), and has been licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri since 2011.

Mr. Smith lives in Cameron with his wife and college sweetheart, Erica, a speech-language pathologist for the Clinton County School District.
